Another rant about opensuse forums

At least connections are not hanging the way they were two or three weeks ago.  But the forums are still badly broken.

I logged into opensuse forum, and loaded the “New Posts” page.  I browsed a couple of threads and even posted an answer to one.  But then, on my next attempt to load a page from the forum, I got:

Corrupted Content Error

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because an error in the data transmission was detected.

This was a firefox message.  I had a similar problem yesterday.

I do know how to fix this.  I have to open another tab, and login again to opensuse forums.  And this only about 5 minutes after the original login.

This is broken.  It is badly broken.  Even somebody not logged in at all should have been able to load that page (and probably could).

There have been problems with the forums for several months now.  This is absurd.  It is inexcusable.

People are abandoning opensuse forums

In March 2011, shortly before the release of opensuse 11.3, when I first pulled up the forum page in the morning there were 2-3 pages of new or updated threads.  A month earlier, it would have been 3-4 pages.  This morning, when I first checked the forum, there was less than one page.  Many people who used to post regurlarly are rarely seen now.  It seems likely that they are reacting to the brokenness of the forum.  They are, as the saying goes, voting with their feet.
